I had some greengages and cherries and a cup of coffee this morning before I went out :cuppa:
On my ride I had fresh orange and a choccy biscuit.
Out for 2 hours on the Pashley on a very hilly route.
I am not an "athlete" though

I find that my normal breakfast of porridge with a spoonful of blueberry jam will fuel me for 40 miles. I take a small flapjack every hour thereon. I always drink plenty of fluid on the ride - generally water with a hydration tab. Always take 2 bottles on a long ride and a couple of spare tabs.
Never had a problem on a ride.

Also read that a you should drink at least 500ml of fluid every hour(more if very hot/sweaty).
Ah, but if I write that you should drink at least a gallon of creosote before every ride, then someone can post that they read it and it still won't be true ;)

Obviously the longer the ride the more important it is to get hydration/carb intake right.
There's always a pub nearby to correct any small oversights.
