Hate them.

Going shortly to a friend's funeral - only early 40's, contracted tongue cancer just 18 months ago, came through first round of treatment well, was back at work, but just 6 months ago it spread. Lungs plus in his neck and the a tumour came out the side of his neck - lots of dressings. Horrible. Just so quick and he was pretty fit and healthy. 3 young kids.

Expect the church will be full of gibbering wrecks.

Are you going to Southern Cemetery on Barlow Moor Road?

I went there a year ago for my auntie's funeral, if I remember the chapel is only small and doesn't hold many.

I've never liked going to funerals, I remember when I was young and not understanding how people could be laughing and joking at the wake.

Local church, then Stockport Crem. We are just doing the church as not 'that' close' and he has a big family so best let them be there as the Crem. is small.

Sorry to hear that. I so wish they would find a cure for cancer. There can't be many that haven't been touched by it these days.

Lost mum to lung cancer and dad is currently undergoing treatment for prostate cancer but doing well on it. Just heard earlier this week that a woman I used to meet dog walking has advanced cancer too. Extremely fit and healthy woman who was always on the go. It certainly doesn't discriminate.

It sure doesn't! My daughter had it when she was 10. Thankfully she celebrates her 30th birthday next week. I have lost quite a few family members to it as well. It's a bitch!

Very sad news for their family.
Yesterday I went to my third family funeral this year, lost my mum and step sister to cancer (aged 80 and 50) and then cousin topped himself following depression after his wife left him.
I did think it was an odd thing to have this collective meeting of grief but actually it does seem to help us come to terms with the loss.

How much does it cost to Oldham?

I don't mind funerals TBH.

Didn't mean to be purposefully contrary; Lord knows i've been to enough to know what they're about- however I do find them settling and a good leveller. That doesn't mean, however, that i'm itching to go to one.

I know what I mean.

I had a good friend who complained of a "sore throat" one July and was dead by Christmas. It's horrible, I don't get upset at funerals, even my family, if they lived a good long life. But for others who go before their time, I do. Take it easy.
