just finsished a gruelling week of 12 hour nights, and i posted my best ever ride home time........ 6 miles 19 mins... felt absolutely shattered in the last hour at work, filled my back pack with heavy poly dust bags for me ole mans green house, got on the bike, slight headwind, but flew home... riding in to work on the first shift felt sluggish....... go figure, as they say across the atlantic...?

I just finished 14 in the last 16 days including all the commutes and im just recovering now.Not too bad on the bike though.

The human body is a weird and wonderful machine only thing weirder and wonderfuller is the human brain. Maybe you were so relieved at finishing your long stint at the coal face that you brain started releasing the happy chemicals that allowed you to relax and fly home.

you'lll have to post your shift pattern soon hack, every time you mention it makes no sense to me at all

in my experience 'a slight headwind' is a hefty tailwind

bah @ 12hr shifts.

I think I prefered my 8hr days. More commuting-miles per hour at work  I feel like I'm cheating myself. Good excuse for a weekend ride though!

I think I know what you mean. I'm in my 50s, and not in particularly great shape. I ride to work every day, though. I remember one day when we had an emergency power outage (I work for the local power company) and I worked my regular 8 hour shift, and rode home, then was called back into work an hour later because of this outage. I worked through the night, in a substation, 14 hours. By the end of the shift, we could barely walk. Everyone was shuffling around. I got on the bike to ride home, and didn't feel bad at all! I was amazed at how well I felt on the bike! However, when I got home and climbed off the bike outside my garage, I could barely walk! I thought I was going to have to CRAWL to the house! LOL I still don't understand how, if I could barely walk, why was I still able to ride the bike?

yeah ill buy into that, fortunately we only do 12 hour shifts when on holiday cover, and thats only the spring and winter hols now. next week back to 8hr shifts, i have enough energy to extend the ride in now and again on 8s.

ps.. the pb ride home was a genuine headwind honest, not bad i reckon for an asthmatic, 49 yr old, with a metal hip......
