Clean slate? Maybe Wales? Blaenau Ffestiniog perhaps? Head of the valley would be Pen y Cwm perhaps?

I found one road in that area that looks very similar. I'll leave it to you to identify the exact spot on the actual road!

I suppose "head of the valley" could be pen-y-pass not pen-y-cwm. I can't find a Pen-y-Cwm. I can find a Pen-y-Pass but its a bit away from Blaenau Ffestiniog and it's actually a much bigger road than this. Either way I'm still stuck.

I have found it! I would have liked to have deciphered the clues before posting but I couldn't risk letting someone get in first.

The location is the hamlet of Carrog, a few miles ENE from Blaenau Ffestiniog:

@robjh I'm not sure I've completely cracked the clue. Behind us there's a village called Penmachno which is notable for some stone slabs, and ahead is Cwm Penmachno where slate quarrying has taken place. Am I close?

@Aravis Nah, pretty sure you have it. The placement of telegraph poles, the old style light on the left, the placement of the dead end sign, the phone box beyond the give way, barn with green door and steps rising right to left. The field gate location in foreground. The path / track and trees on hill straight ahead.

I know I have the right location; I'm trying to encourage @robjh to give formal confirmation before I post the next puzzle.

Whatever happens the next will appear at or just after 9pm this evening, so you can all set your alarms ⏰

Absolutely you have it. I must admit that I was thinking of it as Cwm Penmachno, hence the vague hints at the words cwm and pen for valley and head. Well done!

There is a steep climb at the end of the valley onto a great moorland road, from which you can descend to Llan Ffestiniog and then on to Blaenau Ff.

Thanks for the last one @robjh, an excellent puzzle.

Let's see how this one goes; the most distinctive landmark is by the sea, just right of the vertical centre line.

If no-one's solved it when I draw my old age pension, I'll post an image I took a few minutes later when I was much closer:

I've just checked, and the road doesn't seem to have a name, so...find it!

This should keep me occupied on my night shift.

At first i thought the jagged thing dead center was a cluster of standing stones... Callanish or similar, but no joy on that front.
Then i figured the erection between the telegraph poles could be a lighthouse... searched those, no joy. It's probably a silo.

Is it taken from thew brow of a hill? Guessing by the gear the bikes in.

Good observations, @MontyVeda. I'd probably been rolling for a few yards, looking for a good photo for this thread!

The "erection" is a farm building, a highly visible landmark but not one with any history.

The jagged thing does have history, and was bought some years ago by a company which proceeded to suck away all its lifeblood, leaving what was left to rot.

Both features are about three miles away.
