Half an hour de weeding completed
Hard to see where I have been but had a bucket full at the end.

Visited the allotment this morning and I think my rhubarb is confused as it shouldn't be growing at this time of year

The French garden hibernating nicely. Maybe, just maybe, I'll get here in October so I can plant my last tree, an apple, to go with the plums, greengage, and cherry.

I've just fed my palm tree with liquidised bananas and green leaf veg. I liquidised 4 very soft, going brown bananas and the leaves, along with some cold tea to make it into a liquid consistency. My palm tree now lives acoss the road, outside the old folk, women's institute etc centre. I asked the women's institute ladies if they'd like it across there as it kept getting moved and messed with by the dossers in these flats.


There was about 1 litre of the liquid food. I used a trowel to cover the liquid as best I could with the tree's soil.

I looked this up and its actually a Yew - Taxus Baccata. I may have underestimated its size:

Luckily it only grows 20-40cm per year so I can manage it pretty well hopefully!

Have lots of yew around here. Some are approaching 800 years old so that's a lot of Xmas's for yew.

After a couple of half hour trimming sessions our bay leaf tree I reckon about another couple sessions it should be under control for a few more years

We have two Trachycarpus in pots and never feed them this time of year; also have two in the ground that have got quite big but they generally are as tough as anything;

In other garden news have spent most of this afternoon re-planting a Clematis that was in an old feeding trough in to the ground; was this variety;

Mine isn't showing at all yet. Mind I did bed it down well. It's the first year in the new garden, though it did seem to be happy after the move.

Don't you have to leave them for the first year when re planted?

I didn't harvest anything after the move. Just cut it all down at the end of the season. It was huge at that point. I'd been worried about moving it especially as the weather was so dry but it seemed happy enough in it's new home.

Think ours will be properly ready next week although we could harvest some now.

The variety is Timperley Early which I think is the earliest to crop and we've also forced it ;we have three good clumps now so can rotate the forcing.
