i had a bad a bad day yesterday,a good visit and talk to my superb 91 year old neighbour George put me right.Also just got back from hospital dressing clinic,the scar looks great and should not be noticeable soon.Now waiting to go to a funeral of one of my lads,a few pints and laughs to come.Back in the groove,it's good to get some advice of an older mate.

Our allotment is in chaos this year. We took on an adjoining plot last summer, and now we've decided how we want to use it we've begun to re-arrange all our beds in a more logical manner. Just to make things even more complicated (and untidy) we're half way through moving a shed and couldn't re-construct it last weekend because it was too hot to work out in the open. We've also got the parts of a second shed stashed ready for re-erection on the site of the one currently being moved. I'll post some pictures when it's looking more photogenic.

My strawberries are awesome, although have arrived for Roland Garros not Wimbledon.

Two hanging baskets with tumbling toms have been planted and hung up and two money makers have been put in the rings all we need know is for them to grow and produce lots of tomatoes .

Our blackcurrant plants look they have died this year , no fresh growth and what new leaves have appeared have all gone brown and curled up , but the strange thing is it smells of blackcurrants ?

I have cut the majority of the canes back and will put some stableyard compost around the crown and see what happens

Earlier in the year we added some horse yard manure to our potted roses and they rewarded us with some lovely blooms.

Tomatoes, garlic, cucumbers, carrots and lettucececes doing well. Chilli's a bit touch and go. Onions a complete failure.

Don't go bonkers with you hard earned. We got a great second hand one complete with safety glass for about £300 including delivery. We put it up ourselves which saved a few bob, but given the same model new was about £2,000 plus erection (fnar!) I don't think we did too badly.

This my cabbage palm which has launched a massive flower spike. The fragrance off the flowers is almost like honeysuckle and the bees are going nuts for it

We have a chusan palm that has similar.

You can get them free around here. I got one without glass then a second with most of the glass. I sourced the rest of the glass on local Facebook groups. I re-gifted the one without glass to a community group.

I think it cost me £10, a box of chocolates & a jar of honey plus a few quid for replacement clips & bolts.

Had half an hour of collecting weeds in one of our front garden beds after work tonight, just before the thunder and rain rolled in.
