Just stick the new turf on the top.

Mind you, what do I know about gardening?
It can be done with no problem, you will have to blin the top layer into the existing..
or you could also depending on time of year spray the area first with a glyphosate based weedkiller ( roundup) and just ruffle up the soil with a springbok rake after 10 days or so then lay the turf on top..
I'd do it in the next month or so as turf tends to knit well in wet conditions....too much hassle doing it in summer..
I'd also throw some growmore type fertiliser under the turf (water it after spreading)......
Too much emphasis is placed on how they do it on the telly..
Like I said if ground levels are okay with present ground...on top with it...
Growmore? an ounce per square yard...
If any further help needed, just whatever me...

Edit...as I say below, if not much depth needed to bring levels up, spread some sharp sand ( not builders!!!) or if more depth, some good topsoil which then must be tramped....just shuffle along one way, when area done..a light rake with a springbok rake then repeat the shuffling at 90degrees...do twice each way..this should remove small stones or lumpy soil...a wee spread of said sand to finish...voila! time to turf...use a plank to stand on if necessary.

First answer- as Bobby mhor said.
Second answer- strip off the turf. Fork over the soil, rake it, tread it down, rake it to a fine tilth, and at the level you require. Then over seed the area, making sure that you overseed the adjoining turf, for 6-8 inches? This will then blend in the newly seeded area with the existing turf.
The trouble with turfing up to existing sward is that the joining scar will be there for ages. It sounds like you want a nice finish....

The meaning of blin...

alongt the edge of the new top turf...

You lay the turf on top..
use an edging iron and cut along the edge..
lift top new turf
then you take a notch out so new turf will fit 'into' old turf....we prefer to lay turf when wettish but not sodden.

remember to leave a slight height difference as new turf will settle over time and this means it will 'fit' nicely...

OOPS...if laying new turf on top of existing..a wee spreading of sand ( not builders!!) to level the ground before you lay new turf..(its an age thing this forgetting)

I had something similar in the back garden where there was a dip in the level of the grass. Not as big an area as your nor as deep, probably 2m x 3m in all, but all I did was throw in some good topsoil tamp it down a little then add some more so it was slightly raised. Plenty of good quality grass seed and then keep it watered. It took a while but once the grass had grown the job was a good'un. Minimal work from my perspective.
