Garmin and Strava

I've got an Edge 200. I used to be able to plug it into the Mac and then go onto the Strava website to download my ride data.

For the last 6 weeks or so, when I hit upload on the Strava site, nothing seems to happen. All I get is a "timer" as if it's searching for the device and nothing happens at all.

Any ideas?

The cables can be a bit crap. I have had to try different USB cables in the past. One way of checking is to see if the device is shown on the computer independently of the Strava site it show up as an external drive iirc.

The cable is ok because I can download no problem to Garmin connect and it can view the device on the Mac. It's when I ask Strava to download it just sits there with a timer spinning round. Never used to have this issue.

You need to go to the Gamin website and update the garmin communicator plugin here - http://software.garmin.com/en-US/gcp.html

Had exactly the same myself and this sorted the problem

You could always use Tapiriik if you can upload to garmin connect. It will then auto sync to other fitness apps such as strava etc.

I'm having problems syncing my Edge 800 to Strava. It works fine to Garmin via Garmin Connect and to Runkeeper via Garmins plugin. When it comes to Strava it finds the device but sits forever showing a progress bar till I give up. Waited 30 minutes the last time but still no go. I know Garmin Connect can sync across to Strava but it sometimes misses events and its a pain editing titles etc afterwards.

Anyone any idea how to solve it? Tried on 4 different computers with a variety of cables.

I've not had any problems syncing GC activities (run, swim, cycle) to Strava (and Endomondo come to it). Not had any luck with a Garmin device to Strava/Endomondo directly though. Sync via garmin express, sometimes runs take a minute to appear in GC and there will be a notification on the phone that a new Strava run has been recorded. Titles always need editing separately in both apps. Think Garmin has recently made changes that have opened up the data to other apps recently.
You could always export/import the .GPX files between the two if it comes to it.

Open strava website - click the upload button - connect your garmin connect account.

With Garmin Express running - plug garmin in and wait approx 5mins. Uploaded to both gc and strava

That is what I have had to resort to do for some time now however it does not always play nice and, as I said, is more of a hassle later when I have to go into each event on Strava to make edits.

Thanks. When I sync with GC approx 20% of the actives don't sync to Strava, well at least they don't appear in my list but if I try and upload the files manually to Strava I get and error that it is a duplicate. Used to work way better independently syncing to GC and Strava independently but the latter seems to be broken, at least for me.

I am normally, when things work like the should lol. Get proper grumpy when they break though.
