Yesterday on our ride from Oxford to Cambridge I was using my garmin to navigate. We also had a physical printed route with us and coming out of Oxford they didn't correspond, the garmin was beeping a bit about this, but that's understandable. The rest of the way it was giving "off course " messages and "switching off in 1 minute " messages "lost satelite connection" message even though we were on course.
On two occasions it did switch off.
My brother had his garmin recording ride stats, but I'd never used mine for navigation of a plotted course.
It didn't impress me yesterday, and doesn't fill me with confidence to use it in this manner again.
Anyone had similar issues, or is it just me?

Mine also had an issue the other day whilst downloading a quick ride to Garmin Connect, For some reason it didn't download the ride and switched itself off half way through? Never had problems before...wonder it's picked up a bug or something from the main site?

I've never had any navigation problems - garmin 800 - and regularly plot rides with ride-with-gps. i have "recalculation" switched off.

There was an issue with this.

My first 810 simply could neither change screen or navigate without crashing.

Recent software updates have cured this.

Update the software on the unit and see what happens

I have an Edge 500. Sometimes, thankfully rarely, what I plot on Garmin Connect has no relation to where the Edge 500 tries to send me.

I also have an odd situation. I have a course called "Hornsea". I deleted it from the drive, restarted to check it had gone, and replaced it with an updated version of the same course - it still sends me the old way! I am not sure if Garmin Connect is getting mixed up with the original ride, also called "Hornsea". Worth bearing in mind?

I had a few problems with mine once that were similar. I cleared out all the ride history, waypoints and courses and it has been fine every since. Occasionally I find that the turn by turn directions stop working on a ride. If this happened I stop following the course, then reselect it and it recalculates again and all is fine.
