Garmin GPS: Additional Edge or Pricey Gimmick?

I could really do with some input as to whether i should take the plunge with the Garmin Edge range?

So many features draw me towards purchasing one, but I would like to hear from Garmin users past and present as to whether the features really do justify the price tag.......

i would say go for it. i have the bottom of the navigation range, the edge touring standard model, and i just love it!
what model were you thinking of?

Never used an Edge. Quite happy with my Etrex 20.

I like my 810, especially now it's stopped being glichy after the last software update. Glad I got it.

I have the Edge500, I spent an age arguing with myself if it was worth the money and hindsight it was, and should have got one sooner!
It's used 6 days a week, the battery lasts almost all day and your phone battery isn't touched. You can add everything from heart rate monitor's to power meters, its just a great bit of kit.

I have an Edge 800, apart from my bike it's probably the best cycling related purchase I ever made. I use it for a lot if navigation, it got me all the way to Paris last weekend without a wrong turn.

I used to print maps for new routes and it was a bit of a faff stopping to check directions, the Edge takes all of the hassle away so I can enjoy the riding rather than worrying about nav, it has unlocked so much of the countryside as a result.

Other simple things like touching the screen to light it up is great for night riding to check what time it is, distance covered etc. it is a brilliant piece of kit and if you do a lot of riding I would look at it as an investment.

Thank you guys! I was thinking maybe the 800 - 810, i know if i go for one of the other models because of price i will find myself asking why i didn't just commit to the one i wanted originally. Yes i do argue with myself a lot.

I think i am going to follow my heart on this matter like the majority of you have on here, i have a couple of challenges coming up, one being cycling from my house in Loughborough, Leicestershire, to my parents house in Dawlish, South Devon. 240+ miles over 2 days. And i want to do a hell of a lot more challenges like this, using my phone for such events just won't cut it.

I recently upgraded my wheelset, that being the last major upgrade I need for now, so I shall commit to something for pleasure rather than performance

Edge 200 - £80 can't go wrong. I love mine after using a basic cateye for the last 25 years!

Not sure an edge 800/10 would do that with out a charge, though if like my 705 (which I love) you can get external battery packs to charge them WHEN NOT in use, the 705 can charge if you stop and keep the same ride, so you could charge for an hour over lunch ect....
I have a Bryton R20 as well its battery lasts all day, but that will reset if you charge it. Never tried but I suppose I could charge that the same way.
