Kin ell !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got mine...flaming heck, flaming British gas, i feel a rant coming on

We both work full time, the heating doesnt generally get put on until the first frosts (it hasnt been on yet this autumn), we do use the bath regularly, cant stand showering, but they've just informed us they want £200 a month for gas and electric.
£200 a month...£50 a week....just for gas and electric, and we hardly use it !!!!

They can get stuffed, i've already moved elsewhere, within hours of getting the bill.

How the hell do people manage who need to keep a warm house ?

Jesus christ!! I think they're pulling a fast one there mate!

Have you given them updated meter readings as they might be working on estimated usage.

Scottish Power tried to raise my gas bill to £60 a month - told them where they could stick it and changed suppliers,no doubt those greedy thieves will raise their prices soon too....

Jesus, Do you live in a castle with no windows? Thats a bit steep!

Usually £40 a month for gas and £35 for electric for us and we have kids so in winter heat the house most of the day and night.

Although our gas meter (on a pre pay key card) broke and I phoned them to say its broken as couldn't put any money on the key card to the meter. The guy at british gas said "do you still have gas" I said yes, so he said "well phone us when the gas stops and we will send an emergency engineer".

That was May 2007!!

I recently shifted from Scottish Power too, due to them trying to increase the monthly payment way beyond what it should be. They consistently failed to show me the calculations to justify it. I think all the energy companies try it on. They are certainly all keeping energy prices higher than they ought to be.

I had a water meter installed shortly after I moved house last year and subsequently received ridiculously high bills. Countless reporting of leaks failed to solve it. Found out last month that the meter was connected to the wrong house and I'd been receiving the bill for the family of five next door.

£200/month sounds ridiculous.

Your past bills should give an idea of what you are using on average. They should also tell you if your account is in debit or credit. Do you submit a meter reading before the bill is due?

EDF has raised my monthly gas bill from £7 to £22/month, despite my bill being in credit. I can only presume that this is because we are heading towards winter and so they are anticipating increased gas usage. I'll be monitoring it carefully over the coming months.

EDF just increased my D/D from £53 to £75.00 per month . despite being in credit and being promised they wouldn't increase it by the manager. I cancelled my D/D stuffem the thievin gits:angry:

Who've you changed to, GBB? I'm with NPower but it's nowhere near that and I thought mine had gone up astronomically. I've not had my heating on yet but had the gas fire on for a couple of hours a few nights.

The price of fuel is the cost of a mortgage, isn't it. I'm glad I've not got that to pay as well.

Call me old fashioned but I like a quarterly bill with the actual meter readings for the gas or leccy I have used on them. No estimated meter readings for me unless it is in my favour  and certainly no direct debit - license for them to thieve from your bank account in the form of an interest free loan. Normally my British Gas gas bill is less than £1 often it is zero in summer. Although the current one was £82 as I had my sis who now lives in a very warm climate come to stay at the start of the year and had to have the central heating on 24 hours a day max for 3 weeks . I managed to avoid payment until now and have benefitted from the measely price reduction in the spring as they gave me a low estimated reading which I gladly accepted which would save me about a tenner.

BG they have tried changing the meter suggesting the previous one was faulty which it wasn't. Heating generally goes on when it remains below freezing overnight and more importantly during the day so the house can't warm up. I have very good insulation - triple the thickness required by building regs. If it's chilly I put on my cycling leggings beneath my jeans and a base layer or two. No point being profligate. The shower and hot water are heated by the leccy but costs about £20-30 a quarter depending how decadent I'm being...... If I want warmth in the house I chop a few logs and light a fire. Nothing like a roaring fire and smouldering hot embers to roast your chestnuts and marshmallows ............ especially this time of year.

We were with Scottish Power and recently switched to NPower without checking properly as they promised to undercut the bill by a reasonable amount. Then Scottish Power decided that they could match NPower, and tried to persuade us to stay. Now after a bit of investigation we have decided not to switch to NPower but somewhere else (don't know - this was last night Mr Summerdays was investigating) and it will save us £400 pa by switching!!!

We are a family of 5 with teenagers - so plenty of electricity use, (both theirs and the washing machine), though our central heating hasn't gone on yet.

When we moved to our new house (about five years ago) our first gas bill was over £4000. Turns out a previous occupant many years ago had been with the same company, and the meter reading between now and when he was last with them was added to our bill (despite him transferring to someone else and paying in full in the interim).

The company recommended that we paid the bill, and reclaimed the money back from them at a later date.

We said no.

This is exactly whats happened. I explained to them the extra i was expected to pay would clear the outstanding amount in one month...then they'd be in pocket by a massive amount from that point on.
Oh, but you get that money back at the end of the year...said the girl.
Oh, but i dont have to do it at all...i said ..and keep My money in MY account, not yours.

I moved over to First Utility. They came out cheapest on uswitch.com. Immediate saving of 20%
