Well, I would prefer that people leave their cars at home for the whole journey, yes. Apart from that I'm not seeing parking on roads we all own as in any way antisocial.

clogging up residential streets to avoid airport car parking charges IS antisocial and ultimately leads to the imposition of residents parking controls.

I'v just priced up for our Ski holiday, sunday to sunday in February.

South Terminal

Train and tram fares, walk at either end: £39
or
Drive & Longstay carpark: £37 (bus transfer to terminal)
or

Holiday inn express??

We had an early flight with an 07:00 check in

Stayed at the Hotel the previous night so we were local, weeks parking was sorted without charge

some local hotels will add a weeks parking for free, worth taking a look if you need to stay over at the airport.

There's currently a case in the local to Gatwick paper about a very shady parking company, who instead of taking the cars from where they were dropped off in the short stay car park and driving them to their secure compound, just left them there. When the unfortunate holiday makers returned they were stung with a £400 bill from the short term car park.

Ive used APH near Gatwick many times...never had a problem or lengthy wait on return, always found it ok.
A friend always recommends hotel parking, book in the night before, park, relax, minibus to the airport. Never tried it but he loves it.

I think I am going for the long stay, on site north terminal one @ £33 for 7 days. You park it yourself and keep hold of the keys. I like the idea of saving money by parking up on a street somewhere reasonably near but we have a lot to carry plus I would worry too much. Thanks for the suggestions.

It hinged on them charging people for a service they did not provide. Your point would only be valid if they'd charged people to leave their cars in gated community streets.

I hadn't been aware I was making a point, valid or otherwise. I was simply reporting a fact that might be of interest to a poster who is considering Gatwick parking choices.

In between here and there

That seems a reasonable deal. My work is right underneath the flightpath for Gatwick you could have parked there gratis, but I couldn't give you a lift to Gatwick as I cycle :-)

Next door is a meet and greet who are on the ball and no dodgy off street dumping.
