Edinburgh_Rider28 were fettling bikes t'other day and I noticed that the gear cables on his Spesh Allez (Sora) crossed over on the downtube.
The right (rear dérailleur) gear cable led to the LHS cable stop on his downtube, thence to the right cable guide under the BB; while the left (front) cable led to the RHS cable stop and to the left cable guide under the BB.
It possibly made for more 'aesthetic'-looking cables coming off the bars but seems an obvious source of friction/wear on the cables at the cross-over and as they are compressed onto the downtube. Not to mention them rubbing on the paint surface of the downtube
.
Any thoughts ? Poor shop set-up ? Worth changing ?
