Gear changing question

Is it best practice to ease off the power momentarily, while the chain moves across or does it not matter.

It's something I've always done and IMO makes for a smoother change, but will it also extend the life of the gears and chain, or is that just wishful thinking.

Unless you want to shark tooth your cassette and poss snap he ain't then yes, ease off a fraction on changing
