On the road to nowhere
After nearly killing myself by completing the Northumberland Ryall's on Le Pug, I'm after a bit advice on swapping the gear setup for something with easier gearing instead of what I conquered the hill using, a 42t-26 arrangement. Bragging rights as everyone else had granny gearing

The rear derraileur won't allow for a bigger cassette so maybe the smaller chainring can be swapped, but does that mean a new front derraileur? Is that simpler or cheaper than a rear derraileur and cassette?

Thanks to 2 children, birthdays, xmas approaching and Evans rejecting a price match a new bike is once again on hold. Probably for the best as winter looms ever nearer and this is my first proper season so need to buy clothing.

Any help is appreciated as usual. Kev

Ooh I've just read about this amazing this called a b-screw adjuster on the rear derraileur, and that my chainrings ARE fairly standard

Thank you Mr Sheldon Brown

I'm now on the hunt for a 39 chainring, new chain and a 12-30cassette
