Genesis Fugio 105 Road bike (2018)

Good afternoon,

I really liked the look of the Croix de Fer. .....

I did to,...... initially.

The frame has three braze-ons for the rear brake cable, and the cable is attached to these braze-ons with plastic cable ties.

The frame is a lug-less design, except the down tube/head tube join which has sort of a third of a lug on the bottom of the down tube/head tube joint and the ones that I have seen have this partial lug, welded/brazed/soldered on the sides, but not across the downtube.

I don't react positively to either of these as they seem to be cost cutting measures not appropriate at the price point.

I have Sora hubs on my steel bike and they are great, but so they should be, this sort of technology was worked out decades ago.

I know that this isn't the bike that you want

but where is the extra money going?

Bye

Ian

I have a Croix de Fer and its an excellent touring bike. I know guys who have completed the Transcontinental Race on them. I completed Tuscany Road on mine last year. They are heavy but comfortable and bombproof.

Is that an infinity saddle there?
If so, are they as comfy as they say?

My steel (1982 DB Cycles) roadie is heavy but I get all my PBs on him. I am starting to prefer steel now. But I like modern drivetrains and shifters.

@Saluki I have a Genesis Tour de Fer (flat bar), gotten in a sale at £ 700.
As Ian said above, the brand is really not worth the money, imo.
My Pinnacle, at over half of the price, is more comfortable, and, most important, the Pinnacle hydro brakes worked first time, while the Genesis' mechanical ones would not work, in spite of the mechanic's opinion that they needed more bedding in.
I changed them in the end.
Yes, toe overlap is an issue: same size, I don't have overlap with the Pinnacle.
Test ride a few, imo, before you commit.

Yes it is and yes they are. But you spend a long time defending it. When you look at it you wonder how on earth it could be comfortable. But it is.

You can search here
https://www.cycle2work.info/bg_C2WStoreMap?sfdcIFrameOrigin=null

Cycles UK comes up as an example for Norwich, also Streetlife (which might now be defunct), Giant store... Pedal Revolution also take
https://store.pedalrevolution.co.uk/pages/schemes/
And Paul's Cycles
And Cranks Bicyles in Attleborough
Thank you. I will ring some places and ask questions.
A work colleague has a bike (set up for him) from pedal revolution. Seat is way too low and the racket from the drive chain is terrible. I did offer to have a fettle.

Streetlife is defo closed and I think CyclesUK is either closed or closing(it's actually a concession store),last time in there there seemed to be a lot osf Specialized stuff and not much else(they used to do Assos,Chapau,Giro and others).

If you like the the look of Croix's consider the frameset if you can possibly swap some parts from other bikes;it's 853 and comes in a rather bright red(called Eddie Vedder).Rode a customers' build(hydro 105) and it was very, very nice.

Oh and dunno how many Naaridge independants would take the Halfords CTW as I don't think it's that attactive a proposition for indy dealers.
I chatted with a lovely LBS and they said that the commission that they were expected to pay was unnecessarily high. A lot of smaller shops won’t take them. Shame it’s halfords and not Evans.

Might have a rethink and just hang on a little. Might try a couple of test rides at cycle republic though before deciding yay or nay. Not this week.
