I always use a rucksack while commuting as I have to carry clothing, Inner tubes and lunch
But when on a cafe ride I thought the rucksack was overkill, a bum-bag uncomfortable, and a saddle pack too small so I bought a second bottle cage and invented......

Okay its a pencil case secured in place with a toe clip strap but it works and holds all my required items (including the all important cake money and bank card) So I'm going to go on the next "Dragon's Den" to market it (shame Theo Paphitis has left he could have provided the pencil cases cheap)

In the meantime if anyone wants to use my idea I have a patent in for it so I am charging a pound for the licence to use it per cafe trip.....

Sorry - you can't patent it - it's been done before. I have used a Muji 'tarpaulin' pencil case in the past (maybe more waterproof than yours - but they don't appear to sell them anymore), and regularly use a Trek Softshell , which is really a purpose made version of the pencil case idea (sadly no longer available, either)

Sorry - you can't patent it - it's been done before. I have used a Muji 'tarpaulin' pencil case in the past (maybe more waterproof than yours - but they don't appear to sell them anymore), and regularly use a Trek Softshell , which is really a purpose made version of the pencil case idea (sadly no longer available, either)

I thought it might have been done properly and googled it to see if I could find anything I could buy but couldn't see anything, I am going to source a more waterproof pencil case, that one was from a quid shop to test the idea....

An empty Pringles packets also works well and you get free crisps with it.

I get a lot more than that in a saddle bag and leave my second bottle cage free for an empty bottle which i can stuff a gilet/windproof in.
You can get specific bottles designed to carry tools with wide screw on lids.

I use a rucksack for work and it doesn't really bother me but on a jaunt I just need a few bits, I do like the look of that bottle though thanks might order one at some point...... okay it seems I didn't invent the idea then

I once had a plastic bottle shaped tool box on a bike many years ago. It opened vertically and contained all I carry now. Can't remember it's source but it held everything required for on-road emergencies. I use a saddle wedge pack now and keep the bottle cages for bottles but it was a genius idea when I had it. The easy access is quite superflous unless you can do on the move repairs using the tools within! G

That's what I do. In my High 5 bottle I've got all the tools I need and even get a mini pump in there! In winter I put the pump in my back pocket and in goes my battery for my cree light (I butchered the valve at the top so the wire goes through and it works a treat!)

I'd carry on using it - functional, easy to access contents, and looks quite good with your bike, IMO.

I try to avoid putting anything pointy,solid or angular in my back pockets just in case I come off.

Prefer not to be punctured by a bicycle pump.

I know someone whose cycling career was effectively ended by the damage caused to his spine by a mobile phone in his jersey pocket.

I'm planning on investing in some sort of undersaddle wedge/bag for the best bike (despite happily always carrying everything I need in my jersey pockets).

This is for the simple reason that my saddle has the largest cut-out known to man, and as soon as it starts to rain (which has happened quite a lot recently) my rear wheel treats me to a home-made colonic irrigation, and I'm not sure that road spray is the recommended lubricating substance for a deep internal cleanse.
