Have you guys noticed that cycling jerseys come with handy back pockets? Very useful for just this kind of thing.

I try to avoid putting anything pointy,solid or angular in my back pockets just in case I come off.

Prefer not to be punctured by a bicycle pump.

I know someone whose cycling career was effectively ended by the damage caused to his spine by a mobile phone in his jersey pocket.

:wacko:

I'm planning on investing in some sort of undersaddle wedge/bag for the best bike (despite happily always carrying everything I need in my jersey pockets).

This is for the simple reason that my saddle has the largest cut-out known to man, and as soon as it starts to rain (which has happened quite a lot recently) my rear wheel treats me to a home-made colonic irrigation, and I'm not sure that road spray is the recommended lubricating substance for a deep internal cleanse. :rain:
:eek::rofl:

Do you wear a helmet? Avoid roads with cars on? Never go out in bad weather?

One anectode about a guy who managed to bizzarely hurt himself with stuff in his back pocket is enough to make you abandon a method used by cyclists since time immemorial? Really?

Best stay at home.

.... up to you. I don't consider it a 'bizarre' occurence at all. Lets hope that you always manage to land on your front in the event of any unplanned dismounts. I will continue to carry gels, windproof top, gillet, routesheet, tissues, whatever (soft) in my jersey pockets, and carry phone, keys, tools, pump, whatever (hard) in a saddle pack.

No worries :thumbsup:

I hate saddlebags though, all my shoot goes in the jersey.

Tesco do a bottle for £3 that has a wide neck and is perfect. I have two inner tubes, puncture outfit, tyre levers, multitool and chain splitter in mine.
