You remember??! I wonder how many others on here knew what this was all on about, without googling!

I had a search on You Tube for Sham 69's " George Davis Is Innocent" but it seems to have been quietly airbrushed from history!

Remember all the slogans painted on bridges? That was years before anybody had even heard of the internet.

Not sure. I was listening to Sham 69 last night, so late seventies anyway.

We'd have won that Test Match though IIRC!
Not quite. With one day left, Australia needed about 220 runs with seven 2nd-innings wickets standing. What the Press call 'finely-balanced'. The Headingley groundsmen offered an alternative pitch which was under preparation for the forthcoming Roses match, but neither captain was having it: the play would have been too different. Match abandoned.

Some of the graffiti read "Free George Davis" to which was occasionally added, "with every packet of cornflakes".

Barnet,
George Davis was a small time bank robber who was jailed for armed robbery in 1975, or maybe 76. After a longish campaign to get his sentance overturned he was freed. A few months after his release, he was caught by the Sweeney in the Holoway road in the middle of an armed bank robbery. Is he still in prison?
