We were taking my brother to the cinema this evening and upon exiting our junction with the main road, there was an unmarked police car to the left with flashing lights. Our first thoughts were that there had been a crash (there had been one earlier this winter).
As we pulled away (opposite direction), I noticed that there was someone on the floor with a police officer squatting besides him.I then noticed that the police officer had cuffed the guy. My mother thought that someone was injured and on the floor, but he was definately cuffed.

This is the first time that I have actually seen anyone arrested in the area. I suspect that the driver was either drunk (common around here) or that he had tried something with the officers (the reason he is on the floor).

It was causing some problems in the traffic as they had stopped at a pinch point, so everyone had to drive on the wrong side of the island.

I'm confused, is the ladies lingerie dept still on the ground floor or not?

MDB if the 'perp' was laid on the pavement then would he not be on a man made surface above the actual ground and therefore could be said to be laid on the floor? Or should it be lain?
What would the basement two floors/levels under ground level be called then?

As for the pavement/road/decking, they are all manmade & normally outside. Lain is used usually for the last time a person is laid down.

fully aware of that fact matey... I was also horsing around and not having a go :hugs:
Sorry for my smart arse response. The previous poster seemed very aggressive and humourless and I simply assumed you were taking up where he left off. I should have sensed (as is obvious in retrospect) that you were enaging in humorous hyperbole.

No need for any apologies gentlemen, the blame lies entirely at the door of the Matthew_T residence.
I have to say this thread has been more exciting than seeing some guy get 'cuffed outside on a cold December night.

Floor build at ground level, above the basement, below the first floor :becool:
Well the floor is normally a little higher than ground level. Thats why you either have a slope or step to the front door of your house.

I dont know why it is called 'ground' in lifts and large buildings as it isnt actually the ground which you are walking on, there is about 400/500mm between you and the ground (depending on floor type and foundations).

I don't think Hoopdriver means you MDB.

let's all have a virtual group hug! Oi... no groping :hugs:
Nope - definitely didn't mean you. When I said previous, I meant the commentator who took seriously my breezy suggestion that wild RLJ-ing was a great substitute for the Friday night in town adrenaline rush of watching a guy get taken down and 'cuffed by the cops and proceeded to lecture me, in a jump-and-bawl evangelical manner on the sins of jumping lights
