I developed a trapped nerve in my neck/shoulder having been on a windy ride when I spent about an hour on the drops fighting into the wind. It took a couple of months to disappear.

I'm not sure that riding on the drops with your head arched back to maintain visibility is conducive to long term health, particularly as one gets older. I use the drops now and then; long straights, descents etc but probably less than 5% of my time

Summat I learnt while motorcycling, which also applies to cycling......
I always rode sportsbikes. When buying a helmet I looked for models where the front aperture extended upwards further than looked necessary.
Looked a bit daft when not on the bike, but all made sense while riding as it meant I didn't need to crane my neck in order to see ahead.
So if those who wear a cycling helmet have one with any sort of peak, then the effect is the same.

Maybe, I use the drops more because I copied my riding style from my Uncle.
