Accy cyclist

Legendary Member
I went out for a ride this evening. In two hours a saw five what i'll call people on bikes rather than cyclists. Non had lights, bright reflective clothing, spoke reflectors etc. One was a child about eleven who was on a bmx thingy flying down an unlit busy road. I didn't see him till he passed me on the other side of the road. I then saw a transit van about twenty seconds behind him. An accident waiting to happen eh?! Another cyclist did have a powerful blinding helmet light on,the beam was all over the place,it caught me in the eye ,yet he had zilch lights on the rear! I fear that one day(or night)i will collide with one of these buffoons!
They should have these type of public information films back on the tv.

The police should also stop them and either fine them or warn them about their behaviour!:headshake:

Their safe in the knowledge that they won't get caught.
Once passed, on a dual carriageway, gone ten at night by a person on a bike, whose only light was a red one fitted to the front. He was also on my side of the road.
People like that tend to be made out of rubber, they never get hurt. Its always someone else that gets injured because of them.

I hate ninja cyclists with a passion. I feel like lowering the car window and shouting " give us a chance at spotting you muppett"

Why do you need bright reflective clothing? Or spoke reflectors? I have neither. Does that mean I'm not a proper cyclist then?
I don't mind ref;ective bits, when I'm driving I find them quite effective. My bike has reflective tyre walls, spoke reflectors, and loads of reflective tape added. My pannier bags all have some subtle bits of reflective stuff added.

What I do object to is an expectation that I'll dress up like a highlighter pen, which makes me look like a nobber.

Do stone walls, trees, hedges or fences have hi viz?

No

And I manage to drive on national speed limit, unlit roads, at night, and seem to get from A to B without rearranging them or my car from their intended shape.

Trouble is as a motoring country, we seem to be willing to accept (nay, demand) the freedom motoring offers, but unwilling to accept the responsibility that goes with it.

Although I agree fully with the last bit,
trees, hedges and fences are static objects! you hit one of them then, well, you done something wrong there mate ;)

I am guessing that you don't really mean "whereas, if you hit someone crossing the road........"
trees, hedges and fences aren't usually on the road, you should be looking out for stuff/people on the road vized up or not
