I say take away hi viz, chevrons, and any other hideous warning that there's a bend etc, and once the carnage has settled, people 'might' actually drive at a speed where they can stop in time, or negotiate the hazard at a (safe) speed so as not to kill themselves/others.

Yes the Ninjas are out in force now the evenings are dark. In our village I saw two Ninja BMXers riding on the wrong side of the road last night, dressed in black, no lights o reflectors and swerving all over the road. I saw them easily enough in the headlights of my car, but one day...

...Then the newspaper headline will read, 'Cyclist killed in collision with car'. Mummy will turn up on TV telling us all what a good boy he was (Even though he was 12 and out with another 12 year old at 11pm.) and what an utter swine the driver is.

Sigh!

How?
If my headlights light up the road ahead of me,then it's dark enough for lights.
As a cyclist I think some personal responsibility is required when sharing the roads. So as a minimum a front and rear light should be used

Because you make it harder for other road users to see the less well lit over your headlights.

Because you are conditioning yourself and other motorists to only bother to look for brightly lit objects.

If you say it I must be right.

I use my headlights within the parameters of the law, if every user on the road is lit up then why shouldn't a cyclist do the same? Especially as a cyclist is prone to more injury if contact is made with another vehicle.
Ninja's endanger there lives, by not making themselves visible, and I am supposed to feel sorry if he/she gets hurt? Not that i would wish that on anyone.

I'd say that unlit/hard to see people on bikes are more dangerous to cyclists than cars! Ok if you get hit by a car the chances are that the injuries will be worse, but at least most cars keep in lane and don't suddenly jump off the pavement or come at you head on on the wrong side of the road,as happened to me the other week with the tool in black!
