Getting a bike into a bike box

Is there a knack or technique on getting my bike into a plastic box carrier box. I've just spent nearly an hour strugglling to get my Bianchi into an Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op plastic bike box I've done the obvious things like taking the bars/pedal/rear mech off but I just can't get the box to close. Am I missing something obvious? Should I put the bike in first with wheels on top or vice versa?

All suggestions/advice gratefuuly received

Got it sussed after 3 or 4 attempts. Going to the TdF in 3 weeks time with my bike so wanted to have a dry run at getting the bike in the box instead of struggling the night before I leave

Its an Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op hard plastic bike box. Got it 2nd hand off ebay for £55
