Lost it, got it again.
...after 5-6 weeks off.

Due to loads of work, builders, stress and a general feeling of "why f**king bother"; Ive been off either bike for the best part of 6 weeks.

I guess I will need to give the bike a decent once over before I go out (last time I rode it it was warm and late summery!), clean it, lube it, check tyres etc.

But what about me? I've put back on a bit of weight and lost a bit of fitness over the time (stress + me = over eating and not moving normally), so should I break myself back in easily with a couple of short 10 milers, or go big bang and try to go straight to the 30s I was hitting before?

Take it easy at first, let your muscles get reacclimatised to the exercise. Won't take you long to get back to where you were.

go easy, then you will enjoy it and feel better. As you say, bang out a few 10 milers first to test the legs, but after only 6 weeks off you'll probably be back to full mileage very quickly
