Getting onto the road??- glasgow

Hello again,

Still cycling away but really only managing the cycle paths. I've tried going on the road but have no confidence and not really sure of the rules, like best position for safety etc. Don't want to give all cyclists a bad name (or cause an accident!) so wondering if there are any clubs for real beginners to get some advice out on the road?

Happy on the paths but would like to use my bike to travel more. Given the driving that I've come up against I really need to be better prepared before I get on the busier roads.

It might be worth finding a more experienced cyclist who cycles the same commute as you do, to ride with you and pass on some lore. For what it's worth I ride in from Strathaven to East Kilbride pretty regularly, and would be happy to 'buddy' a less experienced cyclist a bit.

Do you go on the "main" roads or the "farm" roads? I was up there on Saturday making a total twit of myself by going very very slowly and at one point, completely misjudging a really steep hill from Auldhouse and having to get off and push

I will be out on the hills round about auldhouse tomorrow if anyone fancies some company.

I was going to do a solo 50 miler tomorrow but could change this to another route.

I know what you mean about the roads, I have been cycling five weeks now, put hundreds of cycle path miles into it, but am still wobbly, I don't think that I will EVER be confident enough to go on roads Even on cycle paths, ( apart from when Schoosh was with me as he went first) I wobble when I see other cyclist coming towards me ~ I am so annoyed with myself that I am still this bad

I ordered my copy of Cyclecraft yesterday from Amazon, it is going to arrive tomorrow
