Last year I was cycling in the snow and I heard from the bank above me, "mister, are you a policeman?"

"No", I stupidly answered, and no sooner had the word left my lips than a couple of snowballs flew past my ears.

Moral - next time say yes!

Never happened to me. Stones on 2 occasions, once in Tang Hall (chased culprit), once on a lonely cycle track - lumps of concrete, and being outnumbered I scarpered, probably should have called the police but continued to use the track and have had no further attacks.

I followed a bus through a housing estate last night, NEVER again.

There were groups of lads standing around waiting to snowball the buses and the gritter lorries! - Why??

Obviously a cyclist following the bus made an equally good target.

I was in London on my way back to my folks last winter and got kicked out of the tube at Archway because the train couldn't make it up the hill.

As I was walking up the hill pulling a heavy suitcase behind me, three teenagers, maybe 15-17 ran past me laughing followed by a woman shouting "OI!!!". Turned out she was standing by her broken down car at the side of the road and one of these kids had chucked a snowball hard right in her face at point blank range as they passed.

If I'd noticed this happen before they passed me I would have chucked a fist hard right in his face. See how funny they found that.

I saw on the news a couple of days ago that gangs of youths in one city were chucking bricks at gritter lorries so the crews refused to grit the roads in those areas. I've also heard of ambulance crews and firefighters being attacked. What, if anything, is going on in the scrotes' evil little heads?

I cycled to the local shops last night and was snowballed in both directions, I'm still not sure how I feel about the whole idea. On the one hand I have no problem with snowball fights, kids in general and will happily join in. On the other hand this is nothing to do with joining in and, just because I wanted to go to some shops, I became a target. It was easy to see coming, I also have studded tyres on and their aim was lousy, so I just laughed it off. I'm not so sure I'd be so relaxed if I was knocked off or hurt by something thrown. You have to consider that, barring snowballs, it's not considered acceptable to throw things at people or vehicles in general. I'm also not sure about the age ranges involved, little kids are one thing but these were older, mid to late teens. A bit like trick or treating, I support it but it's really a little kids thing.

But this all goes against my memories of epic snowball fights and the excitement that snow used to bring. I fully expect my sons to go out and get in to snowball fights. But they also know they'd be in trouble for targetting cars, cyclists or innocent passers by. I can remember fairly large scale snowball fights stopping in mid action to allow adults to walk on by. The odd adult would join in and get duly pelted but if they didn't there was no way they'd get touched.

There's a whole spectrum of snowballing though, isn't there?

A 6 year old throwing a soft, fluffy snowball which breaks up as it hits your back isn't a big problem.

Teenage yobs compressing snow so hard that it becomes ice, acting like baseball pitchers and lobbing high-speed missiles at your face, that's something else!

Hold on guys....... there is the kids having a 'pop' and the thugs meaning harm - all a different ball game.......

I've only had the 'pop' type shots............. even from older kids/yoofs..... if I got an ice ball, then I'd react a bit different.............. ice spike tyre up their ass..............
