Judging by how parched the fields have been looking this week, the rain has been a relief. Shame the wind is drying everything off but there we go: that's British weather for you. Never dull!

mostly pi$$ing it down in Lancaster.
Is the motorway shut again tonight?
Meanwhile in the west of Scotland, I know it's hard to believe, but just for a wee change, it's - wet and windy. Just another normal summer I'm afraid. I blame Nicola Sturgeon. As for next week's predicted "heatwave" (again), for us it looks like not applicable (again) :

Beautiful day in the north, a bit of haar earlier which soon cleared as the temperature rose in the warm sun. It was a bit uncomfortable standing out without a hat but the afternoon brought in a pleasant easterly off the sea to moderate the land temperature. It's been a long summer, that's four fine days we've had now, I think.
Still waiting for the first midgie of the year.

The east/west split was very pronounced this morning as I was driving up the M74 through south Lanarkshire after sunrise. Looking to the east it was bright with some patchy light cloud cover. Turn your head and look to the west and it was darker than December; an angry sky. Oh and raining, of course, just like it was on the M74..
