Perhaps it's just me, but I think the ghost bikes could end up being a negative, being seen as a 'cycling is dangerous' thing rather than what they intend to signify

Cycling is dangerous though.

So you've never had a close call near collision or anything?

Ok perhaps i'll rephrase that.It can be dangerous generally because of motons behaviour.

I think I should add something else as well, the day I can't anticipate what another moton will do.

Yeah like I can't.Should I say up to an extent.Sometimes they are unpredictable or suddenly pull left pull right or whatever.

wow

I understand the point but it's impossible to always anticipate

I've had a few collisions where the other party is waiting perfectly to either pull out or turn in, they're stopped, they make perfect eye contact or seem to and at the precise worse moment decide to go

endless apologies from them etc etc etc

sometimes you just can't do anything about it other than stop and refuse to take the tiny risk

whether I'm cycling, walking, or driving, I have a lot of faith in my ability to anticipate what other road users will do. This is built from years of experience and my subconcious works it out so quickly that it can almost seem like prescience. I wasn't always this way and can remember close calls that wouldn't occur now. I can also admit that some of the close calls were my fault, genuine errors rather than a reckless attitude, I've always been of a cautious nature. I would feel pretty confident in the following statements:-

training can mimimise errors and increase safety but it can never replicate the years of experience required to get the 'second sight' in relation to others idiotic actions.

no matter how good you are it's still possible to be taken by surprise

every road user will have had near misses through their own errors

Back on the OP I was initially very attracted by the idea and can see any benefits outweighing the negatives. But only as long as it's fresh, too many for too long and they'll become invisible to people. As a part of a larger strategy I think they have a place and a time.

lee hasn't,apparently.

Hack, it's not a debate worthy of having, if someone believes that then an internet dust up won't make a blind bit of difference.

I don't think I do too bad but I am naughty at times.dont tend to rant at motorists anymore like I used to.It's rare.Usually it's for some tit on a mobile i they are driving badly.

Strangely enough there can be a few occasions when you find something happens that doesn't fit into what you subconciously were expecting eg. a car pulls out and beeps at you on a roundabout or cuts across in front of you on a roundabout. You have to then mentally rewind and examine what actually happened and invariably you find you were in the right and the other person was in the wrong.

It doesn't half bug you though. It's like your mind has already done the processing for 30 seconds in advance and has moved on to the next 30 second slot:eek:
