Hello, I mean, Grrrrr City fan.

I don't think Planet X aero rims will reduce weight, more likely add weight to your bike.

Other options to look at are Club Roost sold through Buy a Bike, Cero through Cycle Division & Saturae via Wiggle.

At 64, you might not have the flexibility required to get properly aero, even on an aero bike like a Propel, *then again you might be a 5th Dan Yoga instructor. I am 44/24/21 depending on what I feel.like saying on the day & I know that I don't.

You can make a regular or semi aero race bike more aero by slamming the stem & adding aero bars like 3T's Aeronova or a set of clip ons & obviously deep aero wheels, around 45mm min depth.

Hi StenCenturion.. Good intro .

Anyway back to the thread lol.

I have been thinking about aero bikes and I think you have hit the ball on the head at my age of 64 I'm not 24 so my fitness is harder to keep up and recovery time a tad longer. The hour TT sort of suites me and I do enjoy it but I have thought over the last few days I won't buy an aero bike but instead get some aero wheels, helmet, and some clothing and reduce the drag effect that way. The standard Bontrager race wheels on my Trek Emonda Dura Ace come in at 1760 without skewers so Planet X 45's wont be much heavier.
I only want to get better times over a 20 mile TT but I wont be entering races or anything..

Thanks for your good advise.. :okay:

A new bike wont make you faster and the propel will only have an aero benefit if you are in an aero position while sat on it . That would mean changing the front end and shifters .
I have the TCR Advanced 1 with giant P-SLR1 deep section wheels . Its fast and expensive but my alu shiv is alot faster . Its cheap and rather heavy .
Why is the shiv faster, better position?

I can't be bothered to start a mechanical thread but if I wanted to drop my bars and take one of the 10mm spacers out what the best way to do it.?

Don't you just remove the headcap, stem and remove a spacer and then put it back above the stem?
Yes vickster, that is the way to go if you want to make a temporary change or just to try it out.

My Cube came with approx 40mm of spacers as standard & I had the steerer tube cut down, so it will now only accept 15mm of spacers, but for the @Boon obviously this is a permanent change & could affect the resale value of your bike.

Thanks both of you... I did just swop a 10mm spacer from the bottom to the top and that still leaves two 10mm spacers on the bottom so if I want to drop it a bit further I can.
Will try in the morning when I'm off out with my mate..

Cheers Paul.

Well I did go for a ride this morning but just a standard ride and not a TT.. but what a great result with the spacers.
I lowered the stem/bars by 10mm yesterday and went for a 45 mile ride today up hill and down dale and I can't believe how much better the ride position is with the bar/stem dropped by 10mm so much so I'm going to leave it as it is.
I will try a TT ride asp and perhaps drop another 5mm but how much better the bike feels is amazing?
Well pleased with that result all be it by accident.

Just been looking at a propel today as an option for a TT bike . I think it was @vickster that found a picture of it with a TT front end .

I'm thinking of leaving the TT bike for the moment an getting some Planet x 45mm rims, aero lid and some aero clothing an see where I get too, then in the next month or so have a rethink when I will have a bit more time on my hands. Plus I won't have to make an excuse to SHMBO why I should have 6 bikes..lol

A rear disk seems to be the preferred option . I have one but don't really know enough to advise . I just do what i'm told by the other boys ^_^
