Giant propel brakes

Hi. I’ve got an oldish giant propel and it has got on some fancy brakes. Not callipers but some other design when setting up the bike the brake cable is only just clearing the tyre
Today I met a fellow cyclist with the new model propel and he has got plenty of clearance between tyre and cable
Have giant realised their mistake and corrected it for the newer models

More of an 'aero V brake', I would have thought.
