Hi there. Newbie here.

I’ve got an old Giant folding bike which I’ve just realised is missing the wedge from the quill stem. I’ve had a look on eBay and there are several stem bolts and wedges for sale, but none long enough for my bike.

Does anyone know if stem wedges use a standard size thread across bike brands? My bolt appears to be M8 and I’m wondering if a wedge from a different stem bolt will do?

I’ve written to Giant to ask them, but I don’t know how good they are at replying, so I thought I’d try here, too.

Thanks in advance if you can advise.

I think that they're usually the same but knowing the cycle industry, there are probably abnormalities out there too.

If you have the expander bolt, just take it to a bike shop or temporarily borrow a wedge from another bike to check.

Have a look in any skips you see for discarded BSO and rob the wedge (be aware that there are two basic profiles in use - conical and tapered).

Cinelli use a finer thread but most far eastern ones will be M8 (not sure if fine or standard pitch, but they're the same).
