Make a scrapbook (paper or digital) of what was happening the day he was born. The day's newspaper, the top ten singles, what his parents were doing, stories about his birth and immediate family, ask his mum and dad what they were thinking and feeling, photos of his first clothes, where he was born, his home, etc.
That's the new parents' job... at least that's what we did 30 odd years ago!

I have been threatening miniature racing driver overalls and a set of signal flags.

Might get killed if I try that one though...
I've just had an even better thought, how about a Scalextric built up as a nice layout on a permanent baseboard?

I’m getting a bit giddy just thinking about it.

I wouldn't be able to send that to Canada, so it will have to be for me

Actually, I have a large Aurora F1 set in my utility room...

Since the parents will likely be swamped with clothes and cuddly toys, how about a nice edition of classic children’s books that he can read when he’s older. Penguin clothbound classics has Treasure island and Alice in wonderland for starters

My dad did that with my Scalextric track and Subbuteo football pitch. It saved lots of time and hassle, not having to stick the track back together and not having to iron out the creases on the football pitch, after it'd been folded up in a drawer!:okay:

Obviously an Aubergine
Some small token (such as the coin or ingot) with an accompanying letter of assurance that he would always have a place to stay, or to retreat to, if he should ever visit these shores.

So maybe a children's world atlas too :okay:

Books he's not going to want for - one dad is an IT specialist and his other dad is a university chemistry lecturer...

The token idea seems to be the best one so far, though I'm wondering about a St Christopher, as I always wear one.

A dear friend and his partner have just had a baby boy. Now a gift is a nice thing to do, but the issue is what.

...
Nappies is the only thing they'll need... be they disposable () or reusable :okay:. The baby wont remember the gift anyway, and when they're old enough they won't care... so something the parents need is the way to go with this (IMHO).
