The number of people who can't say "patent" (as in patent leather... that everyday word 
) but who instead say "paintent" really annoys me. I use it as an indicator of (a lack of) general intelligence
And "blatantly" for "patently" (as in 'patently obvious')... grrr...

Given that pacific means peaceful, every time she mentions a "pacific X" you just put on a puzzled look and ask how can you have a "peaceful x". Either that or jab her with a cattle prod every time she does it or a combination of the first followed by the second.

To be honest Greedo I think it's something you won't be able to change in her. If you just ask her why she says pacific instead of specific she'll just say she has a mental block or something along those lines and will carry on regardless. It's a habit now and they're not easy or fast to break.
But I wouldn't do any hinting towards changing it because her brain is now programmed to hear pacific instead of specific so even if you over emphasise the correct word it'll just go over her head!

You can change it though. Worked with a guy years ago. He kept saying "they" instead of "those"
IE. pass they CV's over, did you see they shoes etc....
It was becoming embarrassing in front of clients and pulled him up about it. He said he never realised and asked me to tell him everytime he did it. I then hit him on the head with a ruler everytime he said it in the office. He stopped after 3 weeks

Well I admire your tenacity on that, and good on him that he wanted to change it.
Hitting him with a ruler seems a bit severe, but it was effective so I guess that evens that argument out!

Not really. It was his choice of punishment. My initial choice was a staple in the neck so we compromised

Yes, correct, far too subtle for me to appreciate.
But given that the post was made by someone not using a capital letter at the beginning of a pronoun (i.e. their avatar name), I suspected that he may be 'challenged' in some way!
On later inspection, however, it appears that atbman is an articulate and well versed wordsmith.
