A sort of modern day romance story....
Alessandro De Marchi: "I wanted to win so I played a game with Clarke, I knew he was faster than me. I refused to pull which I never did in my career."
@SimoClarke who said he had nothing against De Marchi "... indeed, I have to thank him because we will not have gone all the way without him...".
And their hugs as Pedersen crossed the finish line say more than any words.

Is coming second in a Grand Tour REALLY not worth fighting for? Is it not better than NOTHING????
I get that first is clearly preferable (!) but for those who haven't won a lot (or for a while), SURELY second on a grand tour is worth fighting for? De Marchi hasn't won ever (according to PCS) and hasn't podiumed since 2021. Okay, he wants to win, don't we all...but now he has NOTHING and a colleague he clearly quite likes has got nothing either. And a chap who wins a lot got another win.
I find his attitude disappointing.*
* Again, clearly not a pro-cyclist and don't understand the nuances. But still...
