Something tells me Bennet isn't getting over those early lumps in any condition to contest the win... Sorry Sam, I'd love to believe, but...

Tomorrow could well go to a breakaway. Firstly, Lidl-Trek will probably need some help controlling it, but that might not be forthcoming given that Mads is winning pretty much everything. The start is pretty aggressive and then there's a long Cat 2, loads of uncategorized stuff and a long Cat 3 before 60km of flat. It's a long stage as well, longest of the Giro at 227km. Only three riders went in the break today, despite Movistar trying to round up a few more, which tells me they might have been saving legs for stage 6. There could be a load of riders trying to get away and potential for a mega-break.

Some of the DSs are also saying there's a bit of tiredness creeping in, some long transfers etc. Lidl-Trek have been working really hard all this first week, they might not have the power much longer - especially with SKA out.

Surely someone got the profile the wrong way around?
Looks as if the commentary team will have lots and lots of time to talk about anything but the actual race……

A break betting away early-ish could well help the sprinters, as the bunch will be less frenetic on the early climbs and if all thee sprinters are in the bunch they should all work together to catch the break, as they'll all think they can beat Mads on a flat sprint.

I thought Mads was mad yesterday chasing a measly 3 points at the inter sprints and I really didn't think he was going to get back after being dropped late on, but a bit of easing at the front allowed Vacek to drag him back to the action.

That's a good question. GC teams might actually be more use in controlling the beak formation than I suggested, given that there's not been a shakeout to speak of yet. But there are over 100 riders more than 10 minutes down.

There are a few sprinters in that group as well as other stage winning hunters. So the question is, will the sprinters teams let a substantial and powerful breakaway group of puncheurs and others form, or will they try to keep a lid on things so that the pure sprinters who looked after their legs yesterday a chance of stage glory and Ciclamen points?

A lot depends on what they think of Mads and what their sprinters are saying about their own form.
Mads is publically saying today is about limiting points loss in the ciclamino, there are faster sprinters than him, but he would say that if he wanted them to pull and control, wouldn't he? He's won in Napoli before btw, and he'll always contest a bunch sprint if he's anywhere near the front. Add in Vacek as such a ridiculously good leadout for him so far...

But we'll see very soon, it's an early start for a long day, and they've just left the start

Hmmmm... could be a wet finale, and not in a good way.

A quartet with Tarling and Fortunato still a couple of seconds in front. A few others bridge, including Vine, so doomed again as Vacek goes to the front of the peloton

Fortunato, Ben Turner (?) and a few others away again. Vine seems to have been told he's off the Xmas card list if he keeps farking around while he's only 4.20 down.
