New break of five at 45" isn't nearly as strong, but does contain noted peloton-confuser Kasper Asgreen - famous for taking the break to the finish two days in a row in the Tour in '23 (he won the first - with the peloton noted at same time, Mohoric won the second)

It didn't look like everyone was satisfied with the break composition, but in the time it took to write this everything calmed down and the gap went out to 1' 25"

Lol. With the break down to four (Mentjies had a chat with his team car and then sat up a while back) there was a single point left for the peloton at the intermediate. Dries de Bondt nips in front of Mads P to nick it for no apparent reason, and Mads was somewhat less than impressed.
If you have De Bondt in your fantasy team you may find that the flow of points for him being in the breakaway has just dried up for the rest of the race.

Four mountain and two flat.

Thanks for that, I had forgotten the Tonale, Mortirolo stage to Bormio.
I think I get what the organisers are trying to do with these stages. Tomorrow is a case in point. Stick Monte Grappa in the middle of the stage and hope the attacks start. Then have testing, rather than mountainous terrain to keep things animated.
The problem is team Uber Arab Emirates might pull a US Postal style lock down.

De Bondt tried it again but Mads took the point. Speculation is that it's to try and tire Mads to give Sam Bennet (apparently he's in the race) a better chance at the finish.

What's happened so far ? Break go easy ?

Big break didn't get away, small break did. Not exactly easy, but sorted reasonably quickly, not hours of racing

I’ve got a spoiler, the sprinters are spoiling the Giro. It used to be about the mountains going through snow. Nowadays sprinters even beat the punchers up hills. The grand tours are rapidly losing their old cool style & flare. I wish the break away would get its day. Pro cycling is getting more boring every year.
