It's 40 to 45 m. The current 3k or 5k rule with 3 sec gaps is very generous

Stage 16 Bellinzona - Carì 113km

Will we see a new set of riders who waited for the third week ? At 113 km It'll be a frantic dash to be in a winning break otherwise even a defensive visma is likely to put Jonas in reach .

A lot of riders are going to suffer on the hilly circuit section... The Narvaez factor is likely to.effect how the race takes shape

Final climb is not the hardest but it isn't a nothing burger at 8,% most the way

The final climb isn't a great deal different to Alp d'Huez.

Wow, some real knickers in a twist posts here.
Firstly, there's not really anything to gain by having GC riders race crits with the sprinters, so neutralising the GC for the last lap doesn't negatively affect the race in any way. Secondly, it wasn't Jonas that decided anything, he was representing the peloton in general, and the team had talked to others - that's being in the leader's jersey for you, you get to be the union rep. Anders Lund Andresen said he thought the circuit was very sketchy and if the GC teams had been up there then there would definitely have been crashes. So the GC riders wanted to avoid it and the sprinters wanted them out of the way and a reasonable solution was found.

Why isn't being able to.podition your self in a crit not be a skill a GT winner needs .... Need to be able to climb .....descend. ..go the distance ...timetrial

Because sprinters exist 🤷‍♂️
I mean, if you want them all up there in the finishing bunch then they can be, but they're not going to be contesting the bonus seconds because there are people faster than them, and the time gaps just aren't going to make any real difference. All you'll have succeeded in doing is clogging the road with GC teams trying to keep their guy safe up front and ending up causing mass pile-ups because of it.

I can see EF in numbers

I'm thinking Ciccone may like the look of grabbing the blue jersey today (or getting into a solid second place). Lidl-Trek have had a fairly miserable Giro so far - no stage win for them yet despite bringing Milan and Gee not really looking like he's going to do much better than his current top ten place. Ciccone has come close a couple of times with two third places in the first week and is climbing well enough to take 7th on Blockhaus, so I think it's for him to lift the team now

As we come into the third week, here's a peek at the bottom ten. None of us really keeping an eye on Maglia Nera this edition it seems
While there are some very experienced riders, it doesn't seem any have really cracked the sinking to the bottom business. Robin Froidevaux appears to be the only one with a bottom ten in a GT - Groenewegen & Consonni have both finished just outside
Van den Broek has the slight follow (opposite of a lead, right?) but has never manged a bottom 100 in his career. Could this be his breakdown year?

Inwas thinking similar but trek need the stage win more than second on the kom. If Ciccone goes up the road he had to save his legs if he wants a win

Guess we will see

I think Ciccone has proper credentials as a climber in comparison to most breakaway hopefuls - and yes, he'd probably be looking for the win more than the jersey, but a big chunk of it is at the final climb anyway, and grabbing some cat 2 and 3 points along the way is still feasible. He did take some climb points in other breakaway days, so it's not unreasonable to think he wants the jersey as well. Particularly as Jonas has basically said he doesn't want to win every stage.
