I don’t know what to make of this stage. It’s not exactly designed to produce any tactical intrigue. Even the big climb has its steepest gradients where it’s less conducive to attacking riding.

The sprint placed before any real climbing looks like it was intended to give a hard start, as someone would have wanted it for the ciclamino. But that's wrapped up already, so bang goes that idea.

That would have left the break finally trying to get away on the cat 3, which again might be contested if there's a fight for the mountain jersey. By the time you're done with that then you're halfway through the stage - at least distance-wise. That leaves hopeful GC teams with a decent chance of controlling and using the first climb to launch something

GC movers trying to riders up the road may create problems for a break . Other than that I think your right. They need a good head start
