Probs not the best place to be posting this but hey ho.

I have worked for Local Authority for almost 11 years, as a trainer/team leader, however , in the past few months my post has been dis-established, while I am thankful for still having a job, the post I have been assimilated into is, wait for it:

Customer Service Advisor, in a call centre, I am now a peer of the people I have first trained then managed, this situation is not of my doing, I have done nothing to bring it on etc.

I'm not even sure what I am asking, I suppose it's does anyone know of any supervisory roles in and around Greater Manchester ? (Or cycling job of course LOL)

While I am of course glad to have a job, the stress of it is killing me, added to the fact I have a disabled wife at home, the whole situation is really getting on top of me now.

Guess I just need to get my butt into gear and sort myself out.

With all due respect to your own experience Gaz, financial services, customer services, call centres.... Mrs Gti has just taken voluntary redundancy from this kind of job working for a company that's going down the pan, top heavy with incompetent management who keep rearranging everything, just like the deckchairs on Titanic. These are the service jobs that won't take you anywhere in life unless you're the sycophantic crawling type who spouts the kind of garbage senior management like to hear. You need to find a job with a manufacturer that's got real products to sell and is doing well, exporting, taking on new staff, training them and offering them careers. That's what I've PMd to you.

Totally agree, TBH when I was 40 stone I was simply happy to have a job, as I have lost more weight I have become more confident, now I am ready to deal with this:

Here is the full situation, it outlines why I REALLY want to get out.

I was Dis-Established as a trainer, I was delivering training on a new CRM solutuion, I was invloved in the project of the build and testing of this system for 50% of my time.

The project has been delayed, I am waiting to train out a final day, picking up all the missing bits, I was made aware of a job in another department, they wanted me, I wanted to join them, I put in my request (This is after I was dis-established BTW) and it was blocked

Because, get this

" I am far too critical to the delivery of training of the new system and the subsiquent new starters "

I asked why on earth I was dis-established in that case, didnt get an answer.

I was assured that I wouldnt be foced to become a Call Centre Officer (No offence to anyone out there) however I have been doing this role for 3 weeks now, I am expected to train next week and then for the following 8-12 Months, as soon as that is done, I am then to be dumped back on the phones as an Agent.

Its a pretty harsh situation and one I need to get out of, either by moving department (been blocked so not gonna happen) or leaving.

Thanks

Gaz

This seems like another example of a workplace using up someone's skills then spitting you out when they're done with you. Terrible practice mate.

My only tuppence worth is have you thought of going to agencies with regards to the training and experience you have already?

Thought about it yeah BUT

With 2 youngs kids and a disabled wife who cant work, agency work for the only breadwinner, isnt really gonna cut it TBH

I meant for full time posts as well- not necessarily just bits here and there. It's becoming the case that more and more employers are recruiting through agencies rather than directly themselves. There may well be a gem there. Just update your CV and submit online but makes a better impact to go in all suited up with a copy of your CV.

Am I the only one that thinks that all that sounds a bit dodgy (at the very least!). Blocking your application based on absolute tosh... as you say, they are effectively making your post redundant so shouldn't be allowed to block a request for a move. If you are able to take up the new post and still train (agreed between the various Line Managers) when required then it's all good, isn't it???

Sound like a right bunch of f*ckwits. Sorry to hear you're being put through it.

It is a bit dodgy- if you're a union member take it to them but having read the fact that you've been in this other role for 3 weeks - if you've not written a letter stating that you're not happy with the changes - it may be seen as a deemed contract and that you agree to the terms and conditions.

Good luck mate.

Good luck mate.

I have submitted a written request to be released for the other internal job, in this I put that I was concerned about becoming a peer with people I have performance managed (out of 4 of them, 2 were forced to leave) so I have indicated my feelings in all this.

In that case Gaz take it to your union - to be honest I've had several very unpleasant experiences from union guys so this may not change things - it's down to the reps on the ground level and sometimes the rot can extend right up to officer level (used to be a steward myself so know my employment law back to front), be prepared as raising a formal grievance can be very stressful but that is the best thing to do - what time frames are you working with ie when did your job become disestablisheed and when did you start the call centre role? Document times and dates and if you can...get email or written confirmation that they didn't want to move you to the other role as you were too important in the training role - try to get as much of a paper trail as you can - forget phone calls and chatting to people in person- these things can't be proved.

Gaz if you're able to pull in colleagues undergoing similar issues then do so; strength in numbers as you can get picked off and removed if it's just one person- I learnt this the really hard way. Give this some real thought; LAs are making ridiculously stupid cuts right now, makes fighting tougher than normal but also there are more people who are in the same situation so may well be up for fighting for their jobs but this process can be unpleasant, highly stressful and hard work. The main thing to think of is how good this role is and how good the job is - if you think it is worth it - fight it!!

Sorry to hear this, Gaz.

As ttcycle says, make sure you have a paper trail - and make sure you print out copies of any emails sent, as well as saving your own electronic copies. There's no harm in looking for another job / talking to a recruitment agent: making sure you have a Plan B is always a good idea.

Good luck!
