Cleaning up in the shed this afternoon, my wife said to me, incredulously, 'you have enough bits to build another bike'. 'That is a good idea' I said, feigning surprise and seizing the opportunity 'but I would need a frame'...

...'well, get one then' she says

Well, we were moving her tools and fabrics etc into her new workshop so maybe she wants a new overlocker or somesuch and was just being canny!

I'm now scratching my head over what type of bike I can build with a mish-mash of bits. Shimano xt crankset, mavic a719 with deore hub & db spokes rear wheel, xt rapid fire levers, canti brakes, various roadie seat posts & saddles... just need a frame and a front wheel and I'm all set to build. Would I be wasting a Surly frame??! :welcome:

Nah, I reckon I'll just see what I can get at the local junk shops (anyone heard of Emaus? an aladdin's cave of tat!!) and just have fun building a hack.

How tall are you Yello? have something that may do the job but its a biggun! MacB and Montage have both laid claim but don't seem motivated to come and get it.

We have Emmaus round here, given a fair bit of furniture to them in the past. I think they raise money to help homeless people and have googled Emmaus France and it seems they are part of the same outfit.

Well done on getting permission for n+1

Go out and buy the bike of your dreams and then say to the wife " The frame is new and looked nice so I polished the other parts to match new look of the frame"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers for the offer Wigsie, but it's probably a non-starter.. the frame is probably too big (I'm 5' 7") and cost/logistics of getting it to France.

Yep, that's the them. It is mainly tat (your furniture excluded obviously!) but always worth a look. The misses keeps an eye on it for bits of furniture to do up.

I'd thought of that Keith but I couldn't be so devious! She'd notice anyway....

My GF has an unused Toyota Overlocker she is looking to part with.
I will get details.
I think it's an SL3335.

That and a bunch of flowers and you've a new bike.
