Glasgow Day oot!!!

I did a 50 mile loop on Tuesday - Glasgow-Newton Mearns-A77-Galston-Dungavel-Strathaven-East Kilbride-Glasgow.
It was quite a good ride (if rather exposed on the stretch from Strathaven to EK).
Would that be a route you'd be interested in? The only issue is that there is limited opportunity for bailing out.

There could be a shorter version that goes via the Eaglesham moor road instead of the A71?

Would that be classed as an undulating route? :bicycle:

A couple of long-slog type climbs and a few lumpy bits here and there but nothing too demanding.

Another downside is that other than the A77 from Malletsheugh to the Galston turnoff, there's not much in the way of off-road cyclepaths. I don't know the back-roads around EK that well.

Apologies been down/up the A77 to Kilmarnock couple times during winter into headwinds and rain/snow and would've killed me if i hadn't been so cold :cold: :giggle:

Could you perhaps reveal some details for those of us not in the know?

Otherwise we have some previously suggested options - a "hard" ride from Paisley to Largs and back, or a "soft" return trip from Glasgow to Loch Lomond/Luss on the cyclepaths.

I`ve done this route myself from the directions they give you in the magazine, wasn`t sure if i`ve got it right around the darnley country park area

I'm up for any decent, challenging runs to Largs or the Tak. Anything around 50ish miles at a decent pace (16-20mph average).

Jeez, be lucky if I can average 14 mph

I'm up for that. As long as I can bring the bike in my avatar!. I did Largs to Glasgow yesterday with a tail wind, via Brisbane Glen, Kilmacolm, Paisley. Average speed was 15 mph before I hit Paisley Road West. That was exceptional; normally I will be about 12/14 mph. But then, I am using a Tricross with 38mm tyres.

Ahh. I got the impression from a few posts that some of you were serious cyclists!

I'll stick with the Wheelers :hello:

It's all relative though, is it not? Some people I know think I am mad because I spent £700 on a bike, and even madder because I go touring on it rather than lying on a beach during my holidays; and how can I possibly ride 3000 + miles in a year? To them, I am a serious cyclist. I on the other hand do not think I am a serious cyclist, and would be worried if I was. It's fun; not serious.

Im sure the wheelers would like to know they have such a strong rider in their ranks...because none of their current racers (nor the fast guys from other local clubs in the renfra bunch) have managed a 20 mph chaingang this winter!
