Sorry to here about this - hope the cyclists okay!

The roads in and around Glasgow City centre are a hazard to all the many cyclists that use the roads. I've often wondered why I'd not seen it mentioned on here before?

Last month I drove into Glasgow on Springburn Road every morning. The condition of the roads from Keppochhill Road junction to Royston Rd, Baird Street, Kyle Street, North Hanover Street to the Caledonian University can only be described as atrocious.
Some of the many holes on the roads were at least 8 inches deep with cables clearly visible in them.

It can only have the council tax payers of Glasgow wondering exactly where there "high" taxes are going?

Cathedral Street and Stirling Road onto the M8 are no better - with some of the potholes 2 feet wide.

I'd strongly advise caution if you're going to be using these roads until this problem is rectified / improved upon.

Slightly OT - There was a mammoth pothole in Dublin which the Dub Cycling Campaign complained about for a long time. Dublin was hosting Velo city and surprise, surprise it got filled in the day before the delegates arrived; it was right outside the hotel. Is Glasgow or Edinburgh hosting Velocity in the next wee while ? the councils will be busy then.

Glasgow is spunking all its money on the commonwealth games, my council tax is paying for a midden of a football pitch to be partly renovated one of the reasons for renovation is its roof is not capable of supporting the lights for the opening ceremony.

There is crap getting put up all over the city that apparently looks cool and makes it look more european for the games. I guess. Pothole repairs involve dropping hot tarmac in a hole not putting cones out and allowing cars to drive through it!! and seeing how long it lasts.

In defence of Glasgow city council (apart from the waste on the commonwealth games) the cost to fix all the roads in the town properly would no doubt bankrupt them. I cant see it getting sorted with in the next 3 years.

Ive been lucky on the bike this far the alloys on my car have not fared so well and have a couple of dent marks. Lucky I dont car about the wheels lol.

Christ that's a shocking pothole and the headline is crap as well.

I couldn't see the Evening Times link on Thursday for some reason.

Just had a look now and believe the photo was probably taken just in front of the old train repair yard. This is a particularly bad area for pot-holes but this one is by no means the worst. It's probably the safest one to photograph as the really bad ones are at the middle/edges of the junction.

Glad to hear they're patching them up - I'm going through to Glasgow today so I'll double check.
