Glasgow Uni Gym bike parking

Just emailng the GUSA. Out side the Oakfield Ave site there are maybe 30 bike parking spots. Yesterday as I was leaving the Gym I notice on the lower platform some local school kids sitting on a BMX. I assumed it's theirs. So getting my bike unlocked, helmet on I notice one of them effing around witht the gears on a Ridgeback Hybrid. So ask the lad if the bike was his, he said no and walked away from it, the reset of them then walked away from the BMX. So asked them if the BMX was theirs, they said no they where just messing around on it! Now this is right outside the reception window, in view of CCTV and two campus cops where standing at the corner! Now it's far from a bad area and it's a good school, so it's not like the kids are going to get lippy with the staff. so WTF did no one chase them. Am I a Grump On Bike?

They shouldnt be messing with another's vehicle. You wouldnt park up a softtop car and expect the locals to have a sit in it while you went shopping would you.

Universities are magnets for kids messing around (sometimes harmlessly) and thieves. I'd have thought you'd be best off e-mailing the actual school and also e-mailing security or porters rather than somebody else. I doubt the university would listen, in my experience. The school are probably your best bet.

I'd suggest taking a pic on your phone but that didn't do the (ex-Army) MP any good...

I know exactly where you are Jim. It's in open view as well, and although it is off the main road it is quite a busy area. I'd be interested to know what GUSA do/say about it.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for reporting this to us. On occasion we do have issues with area youths tampering with the bicycles left outside. If we find any stolen or damaged they are reported to the Police and the area does have CCTV coverage.
