I've repaired a couple of phones. Tricky indeed, but do-able. I have since bought a hardshell case for my S3 after I'd broken the last phone.

My wife took her iphone for a replacement cover for, I think, c£40. Id try and shop around a bit first, try a couple of independants.

I know they don't look that cool, but I have my phone in a flip case which cost less than £3, and am fairly confident that it will survive anything that I do to it!

Yes I have a case for it. Ironically I was trying out the larger capacity Samsung battery. Which works really well except the cases don't fit.

What on earth are you doing to your £500 phone to crack GorillaGlass?
In an interview with the manufacturers of Gorilla Glass after they put a new even stronger glass on the market they said mobile phone
manufacturers would just make the screen glass thinner . I don't think they want an unbreakable glass (relatively speaking).
I favour a fake rattlesnake flip case myself

My current phone is the first one I've had with gorilla glass. I've yet to break or lose a mobile phone.

I Use this case and my phone has been dropped countless times and bounced down concrete stairs with no ill effect. Worth shelling (see what I did there?) out for a good case.

Dropped my Sony yesterday whilst watching the bike race!! £10 for screen kit so now just deciding whether to risk DIY or not!

Yep, same here. Can't find a local company to do it, though there's a company in London that charges £80 for the glass replacement.

While I'm happy to receive all the advice to use a case, and overjoyed to hear of all the people who have never broken the glass, I was hoping to hear if anyone had tried the DIY replacement process and if so their experiences.

If you're using a hair dryer I suspect a certain element of variability depending on whether it's Tesco value or Hair salon grade
and what sort of heat it's churning out. I've read of enough issues with replacing tablet screens and breaking connectors and the like
so suggest you give it a miss.
