Go Pro on a stick - the Selfie craze

This is a weird.

I am in Iceland and there is a new fashion....

A GoPro canera on a stick with the remote control.

Then you stand in front of the feature and stick the pole out and video yourself with teh feature as a background!

I take pictures of Geysirs, Horses, scenery, and the likes, and I really cannot understand the egotistical need to be the centre of the photograph with such breathtaking scenery as a background .

Is it just me showing my age?

I dont get the point of a remote control when its within arms reach. Over engineering is the thing now, from electric soap dispensers to mobile phone controlled shutters on cameras (just set the bloody timer feature and walk into shot!)...

Neither do I but we are in the minority I think, for a lot of people a photo is incomplete without a human in it.

It's nice to have a stick if you're videoing while snowboarding, I can't think of mary l many other uses though?

On the final circuit of the TDF a couple of years ago, standing opposite the Tuileries behind the barriers, a bloke near us had one of those so he could photograph the peleton without the line of roadside plane trees getting in the way.

That's a good idea!

Even though I am quite tall, I am anticipating problems taking pictures of the TdF peloton as it speeds through Hebden Bridge, since tens of thousands of people are expected hereabouts and half of them will probably be in front of me. (I'm not going to camp out on the kerbside for 6 hours before they get here!).
