Freedom of choice. A car is certainly an advantage as it is very useful for all sorts of reasons ( especially when it rains, snows, cold etc....) but it is not compulsory. It is your prerogative and yours only. Personally, I could not do without mine.

My Dad used to nag me about getting a car when I only had a motorbike. It never stopped me 'pullin' the burdz!'
I used to just smile and nod and do my own thing. When I bought an ex-army land rover my mum said I was eccentric!!
You don't 'need' a car, I managed for years without one (though I had a motorbike) but they are useful.

There are approximately 1 billion motor vehicles in the world which is only about 1 per 7 people.

That's as may be, but they don't all live in Western Europe.

It may be perfectly possible to live your life without a car but it will exclude many possibilities. If you are aware of what these are and don't mind then go/stay car free.

The opportunity to grumble about the cost....

I've been car free most of my life, I live in a city centre, I go everywhere by bike or on foot, or the train.

It didn't stop me 'pulling' - although to be fair, NT does have a car, and for him not having it would be more restrictive, given that he uses it as a workhorse more than just socialising.

To the OP, listen politely and do what you feel best. How old are you? Old enough to stop doing what your Dad says, I suspect!

I've never driven (lucky for all the other road users out there!) and had no problems, but then I do like to live in or close to civilisation rather than in the sticks where you must have a car. Cars are so 20cn.

Save the money and spend it on nights in good hotels, weekends away or if you completely fail to pull - a brand new bike!
