Going car free doesn't seem to go down well with some

Bit difficult, he lives 240 miles away from me.

Ah, I see.

To be honest, I'd go car free if I was a single man. Our car is only ever used for ferrying two kids about, and going on long drives to visit relatives. I've cycled more miles than I've driven this year.

Surely being car free gives you a fine excuse to ask ladies if they want a ride on your stunt nuts?

I never had a car, and it didn't stop me from meeting Mr T  - who also didn't own a car at the time, and we've both managed without a car for the last dozen years... Admittedly we live near the city centre, so everyday journeys can very easily be done on foot/by bus/train or of course by bike :bicycle: . Whenever we need a car, we hire one, or we ask friends for help for single "transport" journeys of large items - in exchange for cake/food or helping them out with stuff, which keeps everybody happy. If we lived in the sticks, we'd probably have to get a car ...

The amount of time/frustration saved looking for parking spaces, being able to read on the bus/train rather than having to manouevre (sp?) a car through rush hour traffic is substantial (for me anyway). If you don't actually NEED a car for work purposes or to get anywhere at all from a remote home, add up the savings in fuel/insurance/parking fees/depreciation/services/parts etc... For that amount, you can rent a very nice new car for lots of weekends away, afford romantic :rose: B&B/hotel weekends away and still be better off than owning a car ... just do the maths!

A woman shallow enough to reject you just because you don't own a metal box on wheels may not be the sort of woman you are looking for? And if your dad' dreams of grandchildren come true and you find you need a car again at some point, you can always get one ... it's not a "once and for all" decision...
