point 1 - all locks appear to be crap, even £100 ones. Bolt croppers just slice through them.

point 2 - if people didnt buy stolen bikes the theives wouldnt nick them. Stop perpetuating the crime people!!

Makes me think if I was to commute in London, I'd just buy a junker that I wouldn't care about. Keep my sunday best at home locked up. It's quite awful that even the most expensive locks only last seconds, ok they were using fark off big tools, but even still....seconds thats appalling.

What we need is more decent cycle garages at locations with a paid security in attendance 24hrs. Seems like a great business idea, pay a monthly fee for a secured parking slot, safe in the knowledge that it's under watch and safe.

Problem with that is though, is if somebody is paid enough they can conveniently "not see somebody" nicking a 1500 quid bike.

Yes but if it was a company you paid for the service, they would be liable, so whilst your bike might get nicked, you'd be compensated and the police would have a very short list of people to talk to. Seems like most bike theft is opportunism, so the more that can be done to make it harder with a greater chance of being caught will cut the theft rate. Nothing would deter real organised hardened criminals, but I suspect that sort are in the minority.

Still, even then I would probably ride a junker (something cheap but trustworthy), just 'cause I'm paranoid.

I liked the bit where the kid got caught with the tracker bike, complaining he was out of pocket. You could almost hear him wanting to ask for the £50 from the reporter....:cursing:

You can see why they do it though; the 'prolific' bike stealer with 102+ stolen got a 5-month suspended sentence. It's no deterrent for a crime that's affected so many people.

Oh, and I've just bought 2 D-locks to replace the basic cable ones I'm using.

yep lack of real deterrent......thats the usual problem as far as i'm concerned.....the guy also "earn't" 25k in a year....and as for the kid who was bemoaning losing £50 he knew it was bent, so far as i'm concerned its a pity he didn't get done for recieving as well.

Sorry but this program is yet another example of how this country is going to to the dogs....rant over. :gun:
