Yes, assuming the D430 is like the D420 it even better suits Windows 8 than most non touchscreen laptops.
A decent choice, slow with the original 1.8" drive but still a good rugged choice.

Mines got Windows 8 installed. (I think unless I'm mixing it up with my other ultra portable.)

Thanks again for all the replies. That has given Mrs B plenty to think about before she hits the shops/on-line stores.

I have a Samsung netbook.
It's really good, small and light, internet connection and a keyboard. Screen is a bit smaller than a full size laptop obviously but I find it more than adequate.
I take it on holiday with me as I don't like typing on the iPad if it's more than a couple of lines.

+1 for the Samsung NC10, which is what I use all the time. We originally bought it to take when we go away in the campervan, but now I use it indoors a lot. The only downside is that it comes equipped with "Wordpad" which is a shrunk down variant of Word. Fine for simple documents, but not ideal for big complicated publications....

Overall though, it's a great bit of kit.

Yeah, that's the model I have. I added Word although Open Office is free and so similar to Word you wouldn't notice!
